North Shore Boston

Even though it's just a short drive from Boston, the coastal towns on the North Shore really have a lot to offer. The beaches are great, the sailing's terrific and the historic villages and homes are truly classic. Put that together with some great restaurants and unusual shopping and it's a region your sure to want to visit.

The North Shore is filled with classic seafaring towns from Rockport to Marblehead, to Essex, to Manchester-by-the-Sea. Or who can forget the working fishing town of Gloucester, made famous recently by The Perfect Storm.

So, if you like rugged coastline set among beautiful historic villages then this is definitely an area you'll want to find out more about.

Homes

Viewers will enjoy discovering the beauty in architecture and design on Boston's North Shore during this episode of New England Living. Brian Dempsey from Northshore Kitchens Plus helped us identify and tour one of the area's most wonderful homes.

Secrets

Host Pam Fletcher takes us to the design headquarters of Doyle Sailmakers Inc. (www.doylesails.com/index.htm), one of the world's foremost innovators, and goes on a test sail with Robbie Doyle in Marblehead Harbor to witness his new breakthrough design. Pam also visits the Peabody Essex Museum (www.pem.org), one of the oldest museums in the country and a true gem on the North Shore. We take a special tour of their amazing, new Chinese House exhibit.
